چکیده
Acknowledgment I may never have undertaken without the enthusiastic encouragement from the person who became my advisor, Prof. Yasuhiko Yasuda. He often steered me in the right direction when I wasn't certain of which path to investigate. I acknowledge his significant contribution to my PhD studies. I would like to thank Prof. Fumio Takahata, Prof. Shigeki Goto and Prof. Jiro Katto for their very significant support and guidance. Their valuable comments on this thesis based on various outlooks could lead me to the right direction. I also would like to express my gratitude to Associate Prof. Kaoru Sezaki in the University of Tokyo. He deserves special mention, not only for providing the valuable comments on my research but also for providing the opportunity for me to work on this thesis in the Sezaki Lab. in the University of Tokyo. I am also grateful to Dr. Yoshikatsu Nakagawa who is head of NRC Tokyo (Nokia Research Center Japan) and Mr. Marko Teittinen who is a Competence Area manager. They gave me an opportunity to work in NRC Tokyo as a research engineer and it has been very stimulating and rewarding to work there. And also, Mr. Toshiaki Jozawa and Mika Kasslin were often acknowledged for their significant supports and understandings on my Ph.D. studies. My working experience together with them was able to enhance this Ph.D. thesis. Other colleagues in NRC Tokyo and NRC Helsinki deserves special mention for giving me the opportunity to have valuable discussions with them. I would like to thank all of other members in Yasuda Lab. in Waseda University and in Sezaki Lab. in the University of Tokyo. Finally, I would like to appreciate my parents encouraging my interest in computer and network engineering and many sacrifices they have made for my studies.

The success in the growing wireless standards can be measured by the achievement of quality of service (QoS) specifications by the designers. The IEEE802.11 wireless standards are widely accepted as wireless technology for wireless LAN. Efforts have been made over the years by the task group to provide adequate number of QoS enhancement schemes for the increasing numbers of multimedia applicati...
متن کاملIEEE802.11-based Wireless LAN Achieving Small Delay Fluctuation
Real-time applications such as phone, videoconference, multimedia streaming, are typical applications which require relatively small delay and small delay fluctuation. To meet the QoS requirements of these applications, network infrastructures should have the ability to accommodate real-time traffic. Recently, IEEE802.11 wireless LANs, fundamentally based on CSMA/CA, have been widely used as pa...
متن کاملIeee802.11 Wireless Network under Aggressive Mobility Scenarios
Wireless LAN (WLAN) has been extensively deployed in commercial, scientific and home applications due to the availability of low-cost wireless Network Interace Cards (NICs) based on the IEEE802.11 standard. The purpose of this work is to study experimentally the behavior of an IEEE802.11 wireless network when the nodes are characterized by mobility up to the speed of 240 km/h. This study leads ...
متن کاملImpact of Implementing VPN to Secure Wireless LAN
Many corporations are seriously concerned about security of networks and therefore, their network supervisors are still reluctant to install WLANs. In this regards, the IEEE802.11i standard was developed to address the security problems, even though the mistrust of the wireless LAN technology is still existing. The thought was that the best security solutions could be found in open standards ba...
